make your own fun

Make Your Own Fun is committed to student-centred learning through creative play.

We can work with what we have now to create joy in the world. Step outside of consumer culture, and create media, music, and art that reflect your reality. Learn by doing, and do it because it is fun and worth doing!

About Dr. Ken

Ken Leslie has a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Brandeis University. He has held academic positions at Harvard Medical School, Dartmouth College, and the University of Victoria, and has worked as a learning consultant for the Wondertree Alternative School in Vancouver. He has published in the fields of sleep psychology, synaptic plasticity, and the neurobiology of empathy. He is the Director of Education for Northwest Community College (NWCC) on Haida Gwaii.

“Dr. Ken” also enjoys playing the ukulele, inciting boffer battles, pushing the boundaries of what can be made with cardboard, and blowing giant bubbles. He started MYOF.org in 2009 as an alternative approach to learning that focused on play and embedding learning in the real world.

Make Your Own Fun - Principles

Play - Play is fundamental to successful learning.

Accessibility - Learning opportunities can be created right here, right now, with what we have available: this includes using cardboard and other freely available materials.

Experiential - The experience is primary: we learn best in joy!
